David Ali, the councillor representing Gwantu Ward in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has regained his freedom after spending four harrowing days in the custody of kidnappers.
Ali was abducted late on Thursday night when five armed men stormed his residence in Gwantu town. The attackers, reportedly wielding sophisticated weapons, whisked him away in the presence of his terrified family shortly after midnight, throwing the entire community into panic.
Confirming the councillor’s release, the Chairman of Sanga Local Government, Anto Usman, said Ali was freed between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Monday.
While assuring residents that security in the area remained “relatively stable,” Usman acknowledged that pockets of attacks still occur, largely due to insider collaboration with criminal gangs.
“We’re trying to curb most of the hotspots, and we’re holding periodic security meetings to ensure our local government is safer for our people. So far this year, four arrests have been made, and those suspects are facing prosecution.
“The security situation is one we will overcome in no distant time. You know insecurity is inevitable considering the complex nature of human society,” he said.

Usman also praised Governor Uba Sani for strengthening collaboration among security agencies, noting that the governor’s intervention was helping to restore calm across troubled areas of Kaduna.
A resident of Gwantu, who declined to be named for security reasons, disclosed that Ali was released in a bush around Ninzo community after his family reportedly paid a ransom of ₦4 million.
“His return is nothing short of an answer to prayers, and we are grateful to God for sparing his life,” the resident said.
The councillor’s abduction had sparked outrage across the community, with residents lamenting the inability of both security operatives and vigilantes to rescue him before the ransom was paid.
Since his release, party stakeholders, constituents, and supporters have flooded social media with messages of relief, describing Ali as “a true representative of the people” who endured a traumatic ordeal.
